Sleep by the river in a beautifully converted Warkworth schoolhouse

The Old Schoolhouse sits directly on the River Coquet, with its own private jetty and river access right at the bottom of the garden, so the water is quite literally on your doorstep. Beyond the river, the sea, the beach, Warkworth Marina, Warkworth Castle and the golf course are all within walking distance of the front door, and the village itself is one of Northumberland's prettiest, encircled on three sides by the river and full of characterful old houses, country pubs and everything you need just five minutes away. In the village you'll find restaurants, cafes, a village shop and post office, an art gallery and an ancient church, along with Cabosse, a wonderful French-trained chocolatier whose creations are worth the trip alone. The riverside setting is made for getting on the water too, with kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding on the doorstep, cycle paths leading straight from the house, and boat trips out to the Farne Islands to see the wildlife. A mile away in Amble you have a wider choice of places to eat, from a chippy and a Sunday carvery to Chinese, Indian and Italian restaurants, plus butchers, coffee shops and supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco, Co-op and Marks & Spencer. A little further afield, Alnwick Castle is a short drive, and beyond it stretches a whole coastline of idyllic beaches and quiet fishing coves waiting to be explored.
